Are you curious? Acupuncture and its associated treatment modalities may be able to a) alleviate your condition (mental, emotional, physical), or b) let you recognize how calm you can become! Your body is designed to heal – let’s help it do its job.
The number one question is – why would I go and get a needle? Don’t they hurt? If you haven’t had acupuncture before, you will be amazed at how thin acupuncture needles are. We don’t inject anything into you, either. Some people don’t even feel them going in, and when they start to work, you may feel a little ‘pull’ in the area, but more likely you may feel energy start to move within your body.
I have really enjoyed treating people who don’t like needles, as well – using acupressure is a very effective way to create healing, and I often use it on myself for a quick response.
Acupuncture is one of those things that ‘you don’t know what you don’t know’ until you try it. It starts from a different premise than western bioscience… it assumes that your emotions affect your body and mind, and your body can also affect your mind! You are a whole person – and you are part of a family, community, country, universe, etc! While western medicine often looks at you in isolation (your sore knee needs a drug or surgery to stop the pain), TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine, the diagnostic system acupuncture is a part of) wants to know what location exactly hurts on your knee, is it a sharp stabbing pain, constant, dull, worse in the morning or the evening or afternoon, what causes it, and so on. We may also palpate (or press) areas connected to your knee.
Besides needles, we also use modalities like silicon fixed or sliding cupping (on acupoints or entire meridians – it may leave marks like the Olympic athletes sported), or gua sha (same purpose) – to either reduce ‘excess’ or stagnation in your channels, or to inspire some movement in your ‘qi’, or internal energy.
What conditions can TCM acupuncture treat?
It’s easier to say what we DON’T treat – 911 conditions, don’t do surgery, and we don’t do cancer treatments. We can, however, when you are medically cleared, help to support your body’s healing!
